Task 5- Professional Responsibilities for School and Community

5A- School Mission
– The teacher works collaboratively with
the principal and colleagues to develop and support the school mission
This PDF was shared with me from my mentor teacher one of the first days I was student teaching at Steenrod. The principal, me mentor teacher an I sat down and reviewed this together. This helped me develop knowledge of the school mission and be able to implement the standards and mission.

5B- School Wide Activities
– The teacher participates in the
development and implementation of school-wide initiatives in curriculum, instruction and assessment
This function is seen in my mentor teachers evaluation. She states "PL day this past Monday. Olivia attended math mapping meeting." Illustrating that I participate in the development and implementation of school wide initiatives.

5C- Learner Centered Culture
– The teacher participates in activities and model behaviors that build and sustain a learner-centered culture
In this reflection I talked about attending a field trip with the middle school. I was given responsibilities of watching over a homeroom class because that teacher had to stay back at the school. I modeled behavior since we walked for the students to copy. Walking in a calm straight line and listening to the teacher to get to the rink.

5D- Student Support System
– The teacher works collaboratively with the principal and colleagues to develop and sustain student support systems that enable learning to occur
In this evaluation from my professor, she states, "As the class ended, you demonstrated an understanding of student needs. As students placed
their completed practice sheets in “the mailbox,” you quietly helped one student who needed
your encouragement and support to complete the assignment." I was able to point out this students needs and give them support because of conversations and discussions with my mentor teacher and principal regarding this students needs.
5E- Student Management System
– The teacher works collaboratively with the school principal, colleagues and students to develop and sustain management systems that support and extend learning.
In this reflection of my first week student teaching, I talk about my collaboration with my mentor teacher as she gave me some tips on management systems. I was able to use the knowledge she gave me throughout my student teaching experience.

5F- School, Family and Community Connections
– The teacher works collaboratively with the principal, colleagues, parents,
students and the community to develop and sustain school activities
that make meaningful connections between the school and families
and the community
For my WVTPA my mentor teacher, principal, and I sat down and collaborated to create this letter to send home to the students families. I created a meaningful connection between the school and families by keeping a form of communication between the two allowing the parent to decide.
5G- Strategic Planning/Continuous Improvement
– The teacher participates in the development and implementation of the school’s strategic planning and continuous improvement
Each week, my mentor teacher and I would sit down and discuss the next weeks lesson plans. We would collaborate to complete an outline for each day of the week containing an outline of the lessons that would be being taught that day.

5H- Teacher Leadership
– The teacher demonstrates leadership by implementing classroom and school initiatives that improve education as well as by making positive changes in policy and practice that affect student learning
In this evaluation from my professor, my teacher leadership is shown. I used a graphic organizer in my lesson for Greek and Latin roots to improve the students education. She states "You were well-prepared to recognize and define the words that students offered (e.g., bioluminescence). When taken by surprise (a connection between the root “graph” and the term graphite), you eventually appreciated the relationship between the two."

5I- Ethical Standards
– The teacher models the ethical standards expected for the profession in the learning environment and in the community.
This function is seen in my mentor teachers evaluation when she states "students are motivated and putting forth effort". This demonstrates the reflection of my lessons getting students motivated to learn and participating in class.
