Standard One-
Curriculum and Planning

1A: Core Content
-The teacher has a deep knowledge of the content and its inter-relatedness within and across the disciplines and can move beyond basic content competency to assure student mastery of skills necessary for success in life and work.
This lesson plan exemplifies my knowledge on the specific grammar topic, contractions, and how it will help my students in life and work. This lesson has instruction that caters to different learning styles ensuring students grasp the idea of contractions and are able to correctly identify and use them.
1B- Pedagogy
– The teacher has a deep knowledge of the art
and science of teaching in his/her specific content and
can facilitate experiences that advance creativity, innovation and problem-solving.
This function is seen though my second lesson plan for my WVTPA. I used my knowledge of the content and the knowledge of my students to create a lesson that appeals to every students learning styles. I broke my students into pairs to advance students problem solving and creativity.

1C- Setting, Goals and Objectives for Learning
–The teacher uses a standards-based approach to instruction aligned with the state and local curriculum and sets instructional goals and objectives that
describe what students will learn
For every lesson plan I created during my student teaching experience, each lesson addresses one of the WVDE standards. This math lesson surrounds one of the WVDE math standards for second grade. The lesson addresses the standard and ensures student mastery on the standard. This lesson shows my ability to create instruction based on a set of standards.

1D- Designing Instruction
– The teacher designs instruction that engages students in meaningful instructional activities that support the WV Content Standards and Objectives and that result in intentional student learning
I designed this lesson plan for my first placement of student teaching. This lesson illustrates how I can create meaningful activities that support the WV content standards. I created this lesson to be small group based where students are rotating groups with different activities at each table. Each activity is based on one of the WV content standards resulting in intentional student learning.

1E- Student Assessments
– The teacher uses a balanced approach to assure both assessment of learning and assessment for learning to provide both teacher and students information to guide future learning.
Task 3- Pages 26-39
In my WVTPA in task 3, pages 27-39 I created a pre and post assessment for my students. I collaborated with my mentor teacher to create the pretest in order to gauge students prior knowledge to the topic before instruction. I took the results and planned lessons surrounding the students scores in order to facilitate students learning. The post test held the same style questions to track students learning and see what further instruction is needed. Along with these, there are a series of formative assessments put in place to track students knowledge and learning throughout the lessons.
